Libraries Love Lakes: Whistle Lake Loop

  • Whistle Lake Parking Area Anacortes, WA 98221 (map)

Libraries love lakes, and so do the Friends of the ACFL! Throughout the month of July, we are partnering with the Anacortes Library and Skagit County Public Works to celebrate the lakes of Fidalgo Island. Join us as we tread on trails less-travelled and learn why these lakes are the backbone of our community forest lands.

This Wednesday, we conclude our celebration by circumnavigating Whistle Lake! The cold, clear waters of Whistle Lake were a critical component of Anacortes’ water supply until the late 1970s. Today, citizen scientists use areas around Whistle Lake to gather key insights about the health of Fidalgo Island’s forest ecosystems. Since this hike is longer and goes over more varied terrain than our usual programs, hiking poles, extra water, and snacks are highly recommended.

Want to appreciate the lakes of the ACFL on your own time? Head over to the Anacortes Public Library for guided hike recommendations, scavenger hunts, and more!
